Make no mistake, communication equals education and Her Majesty’s government is on track to further the overall educational development of United Kingdom citizens by implementing the base free Internet connection of 2MB speed for all by 2012. Much as we can rely on Freeview for a smattering of quality television programming, this basic free Internet service would enable global personal communications as well as serve as a platform for the entire United Kingdom educational system. Obviously many heavy broadband users will compare broadband opportunities and choose to purchase the higher speed options. Such a broadband comparison is likely to set the basic government funded Internet connection as an obvious low end standard. And as broadband reviews expand to include 4G capability at speeds up to 100MB, the government sponsored 2MB may seem quite a bit undersized. Yet with six million low income United Kingdom citizens in need of and having no Internet connection, this particular government inspired broadband opportunity seems to be a superb addition to the British infrastructure. The overall impact of such mass communication is probably immeasurable. But the ability to offer improved education opportunities to the poorest UK citizens will be immediately noticed and appreciated.
